First Week Progress

I'm amazed!  I finished this piece in less than two hours.  Now what do I do for the rest of the month?  I don't feel the piece needs anything more done to it.  Perhaps I should do a series of these.  Hmmmmm?  That sounds like a challenge.

The entire piece, except for the wandering yarn, is made from 100% wool felt.  The circles have been attached to the background felt using my Embellisher.  The yarn also was embellished to the felt background.  The photo on the top right shows the piece from an angle to show the way the circles stand out from the background felt.

Our calendar arrived today - it is really great, so thanks again for organising it. Well done to have completed this month's challenge - I still have not started! And, by the way - Happy Birthday, hope you have a fabulous day. Sue

Hi Caroline, I had not realized you had started a blog... I've jsut discovered it. Many beautiful pieces, as usual.
I'm very tempted by an embellisher, and I've ordered the last Double-Trouble book on that subject... After seing your work, my temptation is even greater.

Happy birthday to you, with not only one fabulous day, but a full year of joy and creativity!

Congratulations on finishing your piece already. I'm hardly started but working away on the concept. I admire deciveness which you seem to have. No dithering about!

I'm feeling a little guilty that I spent so little time completing my project. Embellishing is much faster than hand embroidery. I'm thinking of carrying the concept further by doing a piece or two using Jean Littlejohn's embellishing method in different materials. Silk ties are one item I want to use if I can find the ties in the colors I've chosen. We'll see. Look for more on this subject.

That is a very beautiful piece! I will look forward to seeing what else you do with the challenge this month.

I really like the way my felt piece came out. The more I look at it, the more I like it. I hope it is not a fluke! One time I did a watercolor painting that my teacher said was the best thing I'd ever done. Of course, I could never repeat what I'd done. It was done in the style of Emil Nolde. The week before in class we had looked at an out-of-print book of Nolde's paintings. The paintings influenced my watercolor, and since I didn't own a Nolde book of paintings for inspiration, I couldn't repeat what I had done. What a bummer!

I think a series is a wonderful idea!

What is an embellisher? I've never heard of it. I like you pieces and am enjoying how each one gets better and better (I've seen through to the fourth I think)

Guess it was only through the 3rd piece but I thought I counted more!

Freebird,
Thank you for your comments. I'm now working on the fourth piece.
There is a group on Flickr called EMBELLISHER: http://www.flickr.com/groups/cramzy/
You may find more information if you read the discussion threads. If not, look up Baby Lock Embellisher on your search engine. An embellisher is like a sewing machine, but it does needle punching instead of sewing.

Oops! I meant to say "needle felting" not "needle punching."

Thanks Caroline. I'll look up that group and look up the Baby Lock.
